Biography
Mr Zafar Naqui is a Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon who practises exclusively in the management of hand and wrist conditions. With over 25 years of surgical experience and more than 15 years in consultant practice, he focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of hand and wrist disorders, including thumb arthritis, nerve compression syndromes and complex injuries. He has a particular interest in thumb arthritis and advanced joint reconstruction and performs a high volume of these procedures. In addition to his clinical work, he teaches these techniques to other surgeons and leads national cadaveric masterclass training courses in hand surgery. He is also an examiner for both the British and European Diplomas in Hand Surgery. Mr Naqui completed advanced fellowship training in hand and wrist surgery in the UK and internationally. He holds both the British and European Diplomas in Hand Surgery and was awarded the UK’s first Master of Hand Surgery degree by the British Society for Surgery of the Hand in collaboration with the University of Manchester. He studied medicine at University College London and remains actively involved in research, teaching and surgical training. He has published widely, contributed to specialist textbooks and holds an Honorary Senior Lectureship at the University of Manchester. In addition to his clinical work, he has held senior leadership roles at Salford Royal Major Trauma Centre, including Clinical Director, with responsibilities in governance and patient safety. He has also held senior roles within the British Society for Surgery of the Hand over more than a decade, including Honorary Treasurer. He is actively involved in European hand surgery and is due to take up the Presidency of the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH), becoming the first UK surgeon to hold this position. Outside of surgery, he enjoys weight training and trekking.
