Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the iiS Injury package, including appointments, treatment, costs and onward care.

What is included within the iiS Injury package?

The iiS Injury package includes specialist assessment by a consultant hand surgeon, imaging where clinically required, and immediate first aid treatment to stabilise your injury. This may include dressings, splints, wound care or temporary immobilisation depending on the nature of the injury.

How quickly can I be seen?

We aim to assess most patients on the same day where possible. If same-day appointments are not available, we aim to see patients within 48 hours depending on the nature and severity of the injury.

Do you treat recent hand or wrist injuries?

Yes. iiS Injury is designed for recent isolated injuries affecting the hand, wrist and fingers, including fractures, tendon injuries, cuts, ligament injuries and sports trauma. Patients with multiple injuries or significant trauma involving other parts of the body should attend an emergency department.

What if I do not know what condition I have?

You do not need to know the exact diagnosis before attending. Many injuries can appear similar in the early stages. Your assessment will include specialist examination and imaging where clinically required to establish the diagnosis and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan.

Will I see a consultant specialist?

Yes. Patients seen through the iiS Injury service are assessed directly by a consultant orthopaedic or consultant plastic surgeon specialising in hand surgery from their first appointment.

This is a distinctive aspect of the iiS Injury pathway and differs from many urgent care settings, where patients are often initially assessed by junior clinicians before specialist review.

Our consultants hold specialist hand surgery qualifications, including recognised postgraduate hand diplomas, and have extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of acute hand and wrist injuries. This allows early diagnosis, clear treatment planning and, where required, rapid access to definitive treatment.

Are there any additional costs?

The iiS Injury package covers your specialist assessment, clinically required imaging and immediate first aid treatment. If further treatment is recommended, such as surgery, specialist splinting or ongoing hand therapy, a clear explanation of costs will be provided in advance and no treatment will proceed without your agreement.

Will my private medical insurance cover the iiS Injury package?

The iiS Injury package is primarily designed for self-pay patients and is not currently part of agreed insurer package pathways. Some patients may be able to reclaim costs retrospectively depending on their policy, and we recommend checking directly with your insurer.
